    2021 Vision: Leadership Howard County is the critical force in preparing, inspiring, connecting and sustaining community leaders to make Howard County the best place to live, work and play.
  • Board Member Roles, Responsibilities & Expectations

    Board members have the overall responsibility for Leadership Howard County. They are charged with both governance and oversight which is the process by which they make decisions, delegate work and ensure decisions are carried out in accordance with the bylaws of the organization. The expectations of the Members of the Board of Directors are as follows: Serve a three year term with option for one three year renewal *Be well informed about Leadership Howard County's mission, services, policies, and programs. * Be active and engaged in order to ensure that the goals of Leadership Howard County are accomplished through collective efforts. * Refrain from making special requests of the staff. * Maintain confidentiality on all Board and organizational matters.
  • Mission, Vision & Values

    Support and advance LHC's mission and vision, and adhere to the values outlined therein.
  • Fiduciary/Financial Responsibility

    Have a working understanding of LHC's budget and financial statements, and be able to use the information to help guide decisions related to the organization and disclose any conflicts of interest.
  • Attendance & Participation

    Regularly attend all Board (bi-monthly 1 ½ hours plus full day retreat in August), committee meetings and other programming as possible. * Chair and serve on committees or task forces and offer to take on special assignments in accordance with interests and abilities. * Review agenda and supporting materials prior to Board and committee meetings.
  • Qualifications for Board Membership

    Members of the Board shall be current members of LHC in good standing (paid dues, participate in LHC activities) It is the expressed intent of LHC that its Board of Directors will reflect the diversity that make up LHC membership, and provide the diversities and skills necessary to the Board.
  • Fundraising, Sponsorship & Recruitment

    Attract new sponsorships and support other fundraising initiatives. Actively recruit new members for all levels of programming.
  • Personal Giving

    Beyond dues, financially support the organization in a way appropriate to your circumstances.
  • Advocacy

    Serve as ambassadors in the community for LHC, and present the value of the organization to prospects and other community members
