    2020 Vision: Leadership Howard County is the critical force in preparing, inspiring, connecting and sustaining community leaders to make Howard County the best place to live, work and play.
  • Board Member Roles & Responsibilities

    Board members have the overall responsibility for Leadership Howard County. They are charged with both governance and oversight which is the process by which they make decisions, delegate work and ensure decisions are carried out in accordance with the bylaws of the organization.
  • Mission, Vision & Values

    Support and advance LHC's mission and vision, and adhere to the values outlined therein.
  • Fiduciary/Financial Responsibility

    Have a working understanding of LHC's budget and financial statements, and be able to use the information to help guide decisions related to the organization and disclose any conflicts of interest.
  • Attendance & Participation

    1) Regularly attend board meetings as scheduled, including the annual retreat. 2) Utilize reporting prior to meetings to inform active discussion and decisions. 3) Attend additional LHC functions to the best of your ability, including membership events and class programming sessions, as a representative of the board.
  • Committee Participation

    Participate in and maintain a leadership role (when appropriate) in at least one LHC committee.
  • Fundraising, Sponsorship & Recruitment

    Attract new sponsorships and support other fundraising initiatives. Actively recruit new members for all levels of programming.
  • Personal Giving

    Make a personal contribution to LHC as early in the fiscal year as possible. Contributions should be made at a reasonable level that is meaningful to and within the means of each member.
  • Advocacy

    Serve as ambassadors in the community for LHC, and present the value of the organization to prospects and other community members
  • Additional Expectations

    * Serve a 3-year term with the option for one 3-year renewal *Be well-informed about LHC's mission, service, policies, and programs. *Review agenda and supporting materials prior to Board and committee meetings. *Refrain from making special requests of the staff. *Be active and engaged in order to ensure that the goals of LHC are accomplished through collective efforts. *Maintain confidentiality on all Board and organizational matters.
