Leadership Howard County enlightens and empowers leaders through our programs to learn more about our community and to take an informed and active role in influencing and shaping the future of Howard County along with other leaders in business, government, education and nonprofits. Graduates of our Leadership Premier program for established professionals are found at every level of leadership in our community and are the individuals shaping policy and outstanding business practices and growth. More that 50 percent of the county’s nonprofit organizations have LHC graduates sitting on their boards and leading their organizations.
You will learn about how the county operates and get to know firsthand those decision-makers guiding our future. There is no other place in a relatively short period of time to access this knowledge in Howard County and be able to claim a highly respected place at the table of community organizations with other recognized leaders.
“As a lifelong resident of Howard County, I thought I knew everything there was to know about my community. But I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know until I went through the Leadership program – it really opened my eyes to many issues and challenges throughout the county and really shaped my effectiveness to lead as County Executive.”
– Maryland State Senator James Robey, Class of 1987, former Howard County Police Chief and County Executive

With extending the application deadline, our goal is to provide the needed space for prospective applicants to navigate the current situation, while planning for the future in order to apply to our programs with confidence. Please be assured:
– Application fees will be refunded to anyone not accepted into the Premier program.
– Tuition assistance and payment plans are available to those accepted and no tuition payments will be due until late August.
– LHC does not intend to transition the Premier program into an all-virtual offering. Federal, state, and local guidelines will continue to be monitored around in-person meetings and may necessitate instituting a hybrid model. Varied program-start scenarios/subsequent schedules have been developed if guidelines prohibit in-person convening in September which would push the start of the program to either November 2020 or January 2021. Final decisions will be made at the end of June. Click here for proposed schedules.
Leadership Essentials is a 6-month program for younger professionals and the emerging leaders of tomorrow. It is offered in collaboration with Loyola University Maryland Sellinger School of Business and Management.
