Alumni 2.0: UMMS Shock Trauma Center
UMMS - Shock Trauma Center 640 W. Lombard Street, Baltimore, MD, United StatesAs part of this experience, participants will have the opportunity to see inside one of the highest-volume trauma centers in the nation and witness firsthand what it’s like for the 6,500 severely injured and critically ill people who come through the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center each year. The experience includes a guided tour of the trauma tower, with access to the intensive care units, the Trauma Resuscitation Unit, and (weather and clinical operations permitting) the helipad. The petting farm is open six days a week (Tue to Sun) April 1 through early November. Staff entertain and educate families and children about farm animals, farming and its importance in your life. The roadside produce stand provides fresh, delicious vegetables from July 1 thru Labor Day. They have been in operation since 2002 and are a woman-owned business. An important strategy for community safety is addressing the program needs of those in custody prior to their return to the community. Education, health/mental health care, substance use disorder counseling, medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorders, anger management, housing, employment, and transition counseling are offered both pre and post-release.
