Leadership graduates have both a heightened sense of civic responsibility and a willingness to apply their skills to solve community issues. Several Leadership graduates have served on our Board of Directors over the years and have been instrumental in making the Arts Council what it is today.
Leadership Howard County broadened my understanding of the many important contributions made by various institutions (businesses, nonprofits, religious and government) in elevating the high quality of life here. The inspiration drawn from the energy, enthusiasm and determination of many Leadership graduates helps me strive to serve the community to the best of my own modest abilities.
As part of Leadership Howard County’s continued learning and engagement, LHC produces a number of events primarily for its membership and sponsors, and some for the general public. These include quarterly General Membership breakfast or lunch events which feature noted speakers or panels to discuss perspectives on leadership and issues relevant to community leaders. Additionally, LHC presents a number of other events that promote networking and social engagement, such as supper clubs, tasting tours, class challenges and a variety of other fun events for members.
Our annual Big Event is not only our major fundraiser, but an opportunity for the community to hear outstanding speakers discuss the significant difference individuals can make in their community. The Big Event is open to the general public. Previous keynote speakers who exemplify extraordinary leadership have included Dr. Ben Carson, Cal Ripken, Cokie Roberts, John Walsh, and Jane Pauley.
Mark your calendar for our upcoming Big Event on March 28, 2012 featuring Jenn Lim, the Chief Happiness Officer of "Delivering Happiness," a company she created with Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh to inspire happiness in work, community, and everyday life.
