I have developed relationships in sectors of the community that would otherwise have taken years to create. I have an appreciation of how complex the work I am doing in the community is, and I have been given the opportunity to connect and be connected so that human services organizations in Howard County can survive and thrive. It is important to me to take advantage of the opportunity to work within Leadership to keep the programs and activities vibrant and relevant.
Leadership Howard County has raised my awareness of the challenges facing our community and helped me find ways to give back. It has opened the door to new business opportunities, and led to relationships with those who share a vision of making Howard County the best it can be.
The 4th Annual LHC Iron Chef Cook Off drew an audience of more than 100 cheering fans on February 28th, as six teams competed for the coveted Tomato Can trophy on the cable TV show “Fit and Fabulous.” Hosted by Brenda von Rautenkranz (LHC 2005), the competition is an opportunity for classes to form teams, test their culinary creativity, and raise money for the Howard County Food Bank, Salvation Army and Leadership U.

The results were delicious and the audience members enjoyed tasting and voting. Seeking to defend their title from last year, the Class of 2010 put up a great effort but was overtaken by the Overall Winner, the Class of 2011.
In exchange for tickets for each competition, audience members brought canned goods or non-perishable food to be donated to the Food Bank and the Salvation Army. Additional tickets were available for purchase. These funds were dedicated to Leadership U.
This highly successful event collected over 750 lbs. of non-perishable food. With the support of Wegmans, The Dream Team contributed 260 cans. Additional ticket sales yielded more than $350 for Leadership U. And, the Class of 2009 (spearheaded by Jason Chamberlain) raised over$1285 to CAC’s food bank.
