Being a life-long resident, as well as working in Howard County nearly my entire career, I enjoy the fabulous quality of life this community has to offer. It wasn’t, however, until my 2003 Leadership experience I realized just how much I didn’t know about Howard County and those elements that make it such great place to live and work. Through a comprehensive and interactive program, Leadership taught me the significant impact vigorous and consistent service has on the continued strengthening of the community. As an active LHC graduate, regular interaction with other alum and attendance at LHC events provides ongoing personal and professional learning opportunities.

As a member of the Maryland House of Delegates I credit LHC with giving me a broad understanding of how government departments and private entities cooperate to make Howard County the best county in our state.

Ready to Apply?

Leadership U is open to high school sophomores (or equivalents who are home-schooled) who live in Howard County. Students may attend public or private school, or be home-schooled.

Students must have a desire to learn about their community and a willingness to volunteer. LU is a great way to meet new people from different schools who share similar interests in knowing more about their community, and who want to make a positive impact.

Applications must be received in the Leadership office by Friday, March 11, 2011.

When your application is reviewed, you will be contacted to set up a time for a personal interview. Upon acceptance to the program, a fee of $750 is due.
