Laurie joined Leadership Howard County (LHC) in 2002. For five years, she coordinated the Leadership U Program. Currently she is overseeing the Youth Programs (Leadership U and Youth on Board) and managing LHCs newest initiative for young professionals, Leadership Essentials.

Laurie's experience in leadership development began in the early 1980's while employed at the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington DC. For five years, she managed the "Greater Leadership Opportunities Program" for mid-level employees aspiring to rise to the ranks of management.

Prior to working at LHC, Laurie was Campus Department Chair of Undergraduate Business at the newly created University of Phoenix-Maryland Campus. Here she taught numerous undergraduate and graduate classes to adults returning to school as well as recruited, evaluated and mentored new faculty.

Laurie has lived in Howard County with her family for the past 20 years. Her community involvement includes active memberships and volunteer activities at her children's schools (Pointers Run and Atholton High School); board member and current president, HC DrugFree, Inc. (2004- present); advisory board member, Women's Giving Circle (2005-present); past board member at Urban Rural Transportation Alliance (1998-2004); board member and past president, Shalom School (1993-95).

Laurie has a BS in Human Development and Family Studies from Cornell University, a MA in Training and Development from George Washington University and a graduate certificate in Organizational Development from Georgetown University.
