Leadership Howard County

LEADERSHIP PREMIER

OVERVIEW

Members of LHC Class of 2007 participate in a teambuilding activity during their retreat at Chesapeake Beach Resort.

Leadership Premier is open to persons living or working in Howard County. Each class is limited to approximately 40 individuals.

Class members are chosen on their own merits by a Selection Committee who will review the application and personally interview each candidate. The committee will seek representation from a cross-selection of the community including business, labor, education, the arts, religion, community based organizations, and ethnic and minority groups. To view the selection criteria, click here.

Nominees must have the full support of the organization or corporation they represent and individuals may nominate themselves.

Leadership Premier provides a comprehensive overview of Howard County. Throughout the 10-month program, participants attend one-day sessions that focus on:

  • how the county works,
  • who the key decision-makers are
  • what the major issues are
  • how to tap vital resources
  • how to affect change.

If you are accepted into Leadership Premier, you will be expected to attend 10 sessions from September through June. These consist of nine full-day sessions and a mandatory overnight retreat. Each session is designed to educate participants about different components of life in Howard County, including:

  • Education
  • Health and Aging
  • Cultural Arts and Recreation
  • County and State Government
  • Criminal Law and Public Safety
  • Economic Development and Growth
  • Human Services and Housing

" Without a doubt, the most important benefit of LHC to me personally has been learning about and feeling connected to our Howard County community and, because of this, being sometimes able to make a difference! "
